The Department of Agriculture has approved the use of a generically modified apple called the Arctic Apple.
You know how the meat of the apple starts to turn brown if it sits for a short while? This just happens naturally once exposed to the air and it can be unappealing but it doesn’t affect the taste.
Well, apparently someone decided that we just couldn’t go on anymore, living with this problem of apples turning brown before our eyes.
So thankfully a company called Okanagan Specialty Fruits came up with a GMO version of the Granny Smith that will stay the fresh looking natural color much longer.
Would you be in favor of non-browning Granny Smith apples? Would you consider planting to grow this variety?
